Biodiversity Conservation

Hubei has established eight ecological restoration zones, launched ten key ecological restoration projects, and addressed the legislative gap at provincial level for ecological protection. These efforts have helped improve the ecological environment and enriched Hubei’s biodiversity.

Today, the population of Yangtze finless porpoises is steadily increasing. Endangered species such as the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey, milu deer, Baer’s pochard, and black stork have seen population growth and expanded distribution. The population of milu deer in Shishou City has surged from 64 to over 3,800, and that of golden snub-nosed monkeys in Shennongjia has increased from around 500 to 1,618. As the Yangtze’s ecology improves, its aquatic biodiversity has also been enhanced.
