Huxiang culture

In the long historical process, the center of China's economy and culture has moved many times. Before the Song Dynasty, Hunan was still on the edge of Chinese civilization. Since the Song Dynasty, especially in the Southern Song Dynasty, the political, economic and cultural center moved southward, and Huxiang culture flourished. Not only Zhou Dunyi, the originator of Neo-Confucianism, but also the Huxiang School with great influence and contribution appeared, and a number of Huxiang academies represented by Yuelu Academy appeared. Xiangxue came into being, and Huxiang culture became an important branch of Chinese culture.

In terms of literature and art dealers, Qu Yuan's Chu Ci, Ouyang Xun's calligraphy, Qi Baishi's paintings and Shen Congwen's literary works show the artistic charm of Huxiang culture. Hunan opera is dominated by high tune, Kunming tune and random play, all of which embody the delicacy and deep affection of Hunan art; Hunan embroidery uses "needle as pen and thread as ink" to embroider tigers, lions and other patterns on cloth, becoming the representative of Hunan arts and crafts.
