2025-12-16

On December 11, Reference News reported that the "China's Urban International Influence Development Report (2025)" (hereinafter referred to as "the Report") was released at the 5th China Urban International Communication Forum. Wuhan, alongside Beijing, Shanghai, and other cities, was selected as a key research subject under the "Annual Research Program on Urban International Influence." This recognition not only affirms Wuhan's recent efforts in international communication but also reflects how this city—"nurtured by rivers, connecting three towns; linked by cities, spanning nine provinces"—is showcasing a model of Chinese-style modern urban development to the world through diversified and innovative communication practices.

The combination of "going global" and "inviting in" is a distinctive feature of Wuhan's international communication. As reported by Reference News, Wuhan has built a collaborative system integrating "cultural corridors + night tourism economy + new media communication" along the Yangtze River banks to enhance its overall urban competitiveness.

In May this year, Wuhan, in collaboration with the Asia-Africa Center of China Media Group, invited over 20 mainstream media journalists from countries such as Thailand, Laos, and Turkey, as well as diplomats stationed in China from five countries including Vietnam and Nepal, to conduct a 10-day "Stroll China · Discover Wuhan" joint interview. Foreign media representatives visited places like East Lake, the Yangtze Civilization Museum, and Optics Valley Laboratory in Wuhan, capturing the city's ecological protection, technological innovation, and cultural heritage through their lenses, enabling the world to witness an authentic, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive Wuhan through a "foreign perspective."

From September 25 to 27, Wuhan hosted the 2025 "Great Rivers Dialogue" event, inviting representatives from global political, academic, think tank, corporate, and international organization circles to engage in in-depth discussions and promote practical cooperation on topics including the inheritance and development of river civilization, water resource security, ecological conservation, and cultural dissemination.

In 2025, Jiangtun Studio illuminated the city's brand with the "Smiling Angel" image. The IP character "Jiangtun Taotao," serving as a representative of "Wuhan Gift," made its debut at the China Cultural Festival in Washington, D.C., USA. This marked the first time the Yangtze finless porpoise stepped onto the global stage as a cultural symbol, showcasing its unique charm to the world.

From cultural dissemination to ecological storytelling, from media collaboration to grassroots engagement, Wuhan is advancing its international communication with a "three-dimensional, multi-dimensional, and down-to-earth" approach, continuously enhancing its global influence. Looking ahead, this city—blending historical depth with innovative vitality—will persist in pioneering new pathways for international outreach, ensuring the voice of "Great Rivers, Great Lakes, Great Wuhan" resonates farther and more powerfully across the world.
