In driving high-quality development of the Yangtze Economic Belt, Hubei has taken strong politicalresponsibility for the well-coordinated protection of the Yangtze. It was among the first to establish the “onekilometer red line” along the river’s banks. As part of this effort, 472 chemical enterprises were shut down, overhauled, relocated, or transformed into other forms of production, and 1,859 docks were dismantled. A tenyear fishing ban, effective since midnight on January 1, 2021, was implemented in key waters of the Yangtze River.
By the end of 2024, Hubei had rectified over 12,000 discharge outlets along the Yangtze River, with a completion rate exceeding 99%, and over 15,000 ones of 24 key rivers and lakes under the national project, with a completion rate of over 91%. As a result, the Yangtze River, Han River, and Qingjiang River have all taken on a new look.
