Hubei, located at the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, is home to three major rivers, thousands of lakes,and over 4,200 rivers. It plays a crucial role in the national water network and major water arteries.

Hubei has made persistent efforts to manage its water ecology, fully leveraging the Three Gorges Dam andDanjiangkou Reservoir as key national strategic facilities. In 2024, the water quality of the Yangtze Rivermainstream and Danjiangkou Reservoir remained above Grade II standards, and that of Honghu Lake improvedto Grade IV. The Ganhe River in Xianning City was selected as a fine example for river management under thenational “Happy Rivers and Lakes” initiative.

Hubei has carried out comprehensive river basin management, with the proportion of surface watersections at Grade III and above controlled at national level reaching 95.8%. It has also developed a safe andresilient modern water network to ensure the tranquility of rivers and lakes, the eastward flow of clean water,and the northward delivery of high-quality water.
